Mexico to play active role in UN Climate Meet
Mexico: As host of the next UN climate change conference, Mexico will
seek to build consensus on financing, technology and commitments,
Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa said.
Speaking at an environmental event in the Mexican capital Friday,
Espinosa said it would be very important for the 16th Conference of the
Parties (COP 16) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change, set for late 2010 in Cancun, to establish basic mechanisms for
specific and immediate actions to limit global warming.
Alluding to disagreements in precedening forums, the diplomat pointed
out that "the pieces of the puzzle are known, but we have not attained a
balance for achieving political agreement that establishes clear rules
among those components: financing, technology and goals of the states."
