Surprise checks on Ministry institutions
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister
Douglas Devananda carried out surprise checks of the Head Offices,
factories and Training Centres in Colombo of the Institutions under the
purview of his Ministry, namely; the Lanka Industrial Development Board,
the National Designing Centre and the National craft Council, recently.
During this inspection tour the Minister observed many shortcomings
that hinder production quality and smooth functioning of these
Institutions.
He also checked the possibility of replacing the outdated machinery
and provide better working conditions for the employees so as to boost
production quality.
He also discussed as to how the Government could assist the craftsmen
of the National Craft Council for enhancing their income generation.
The Minister addressing the employees of these institutions stated
that in accordance with the Mahinda Chintana 5,000 traditional and small
industries are to be developed in the coming year's, and to make this
target achievable he needed the cooperation of all the employees.
