The National Housing Development Authority is planing to construct
flats in the Jaffna town and it’s suburbs in lands belonging to the NHDA
under the direction of Construction, Engineering, Housing and Common
Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
Lands have already been identified by NHDA officers led by its
Chairman Jayantha Samaraweera during their recent visit to Jaffna.
A number of NHDA housing schemes were inspected by the NHDA Officials
which had been damaged during the war period.
The Tharakulam housing scheme situates inside the high security zone
of Jaffna was also inspected by NHDA Chairman Jayantha Samaraweera. It
was one of the schemes seriously damaged by the war.
NHDA Official said the present occupants of Tharakulam will be
provided permanent houses in the area close to the Jaffna town as
decided by the NHDA Chairman. A housing complex in the same premises of
Tharakulam will be constructed soon in lieu of their damaged flat.
A bigger land plot near Navatkuly housing scheme has been identified
to construct a larger housing scheme in Jaffna town in 2011 according to
the instruction given by Minister Wimal Weerawansa. Residents who
resided in Jaffna and its suburbs earlier will be encouraged to acquire
the houses in the Jaffna town.
To redress the Public servants’ housing problems in Jaffna, it has
been decided to implement a concessionary housing loan program with the
collaboration of the Treasury or any other State bank.
NHDA Vice Chairman A.W. Dayananda , Working Director Udayashantha
Gunasekera, General Manager L.S. Palansuriya and Deputy General Manager
