Leo Burnett wins Finalist Certificate
AME Awards 2010 :
Leo Burnett Solutions Inc. (LBSI), the Sri Lanka office of the
internationally acclaimed advertising agency network Leo Burnett
Worldwide earned a Finalist Certificate at the International AME Awards
for Advertising and Marketing Effectiveness.
The Finalist award won at this year’s AME Awards was for the ‘Laugh
Tax’ campaign designed to hail the sequel to the popular theatre
production comedy by StageFright and Panic, StageLight and Magic Inc.’
alter ego, which is about a fictitious Sri Lankan President, Chaminda
Pusswedilla.
To effectively bring Hon. Puss (as he is affectionately known) to
life in the public domain, Leo Burnett treated this ‘president’ as if he
was a real president, who does ‘real’ things such as introduce new laws
and taxes - hence the introduction of the ‘Laugh Tax’ campaign. The
Pusswedilla campaigns designed for the StageLight and Magic theatre
company have won many accolades including two finalists at Spikes Asia
2008 & 2009, in addition to many local awards.
“Taxes have always been a big issue in Sri Lanka. So we thought a new
and absurd tax would be the best way to create interest amongst the
target audience. The Laugh Tax was absurd enough, as it was not only
relevant to the heavily comic element of the theatre production, but
also aroused so much interest, that it created quite a bit of discussion
amongst the general public. The Laugh Tax was also in keeping with our
Humankind focus, where we do what people can simply understand and
connect with”, said Leo Burnett Solutions Inc Creative Director Lalindra
Nanayakkara.
The International AME GrandJury awarded one Grand Trophy, three AME
Platinum Trophies, as well as nine Gold International AME Awards,
sixteen Silver Awards, and eighteen Bronze Awards.
Twenty-seven entries received AME Finalist Certificates.
“This is yet another occasion that our creative work has been
recognized for effectiveness”, said Leo Burnett Solutions Inc Chief
Operating Officer Chrishani Kotalawela. “This is because all our
communication efforts are based on our founder’s saying: Our real
purpose in life is that of improving the sales effectiveness and
reputation of our clients through ideas”, she said.
Established in 1994, the AME Awards for Advertising and Marketing
Effectiveness aims to recognize creative and successful marketing
strategies across all industry verticals through a network of 42
representatives in publishing, marketing, advertising and education.
Awarding results driven creativity, AME honours innovative and
exceptional work in the advertising and marketing industries by
promoting winners internationally.
