Soldier allegedly shoots colleague dead

A soldier allegedly fired at a group of soldiers killing one and injuring three others in the Serunuwara area, Trincomalee Monday midnight. The suspect was arrested.

Police spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said the soldier fired at four other soldiers while they were on duty near Serunuwera Army camp in Meegasgodella.

“The firing killed a soldier on the spot and injured three others, he added.

The incident had occurred away from the Serunuwara camp at a round 12 midnight. He said initial investigations revealed that a personal dispute between two soldiers was the reason behind the incident.

The injured were admitted to the Trincomalee hospital.

The suspect was arrested. Serunuwera police is investigating.
