Dengue cases rise in Galle

Four hundred and eight dengue patients have been identified during the last six months in Galle district, a Health Department official said. Last year, 657 dengue patients were identified from the district, the official said.

Galle Municipality Health Services Director Dr Sriyani Jayasuriya said arrangements have been made to bring the disease under control. Dengue is fast spreading in Poddala-Bope, Ganegama, Imaduwa and Hikkaduwa Divisional Secretariat areas, the officials said.

Meanwhile, a Health Ministry official said the number of dengue patients in the island has risen to 18,611 this year.

The dengue death toll from January to July is 132.
