Security Forces to join anti-dengue fight

The Government will seek the support of the Three Forces to curb the spread of the Dengue epidemic with immediate effect.

This decision was taken as a response to the request made by Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena from the Security Forces Chiefs. The spread of Dengue epidemic has become unavoidable for numerous reasons. Therefore, urgent action has to be taken to eradicate dengue.

A special discussion was held among the Three Forces Chiefs, Inspector General of Police, Director General of Civil Security Department, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena yesterday.

Accordingly, Provincial Committees will be appointed to curb the Dengue epidemic and island-wide awareness campaigns will be carried out under the direct supervision of the Three Forces. The areas where military personnel are detailed with security will also be included in this program. Island-wide awareness campaigns will be conducted to seek the people's support in the anti-dengue fight.
