Imad Reyal hero for KICBT

Two brilliant tries by former St. Anthony’s College ruggerite and Man of the Tournament Imad Reyal helped Kandy International College of Business Technology (KICBT) to defeat Institute of Financial Services Banking College, Kandy (IFSBC) by 17 points (1 goal, 2 tries) to 5 (1 try) to become champions at the all island inter Institutes seven-a-side rugby tournament organised by the Kandy ICBS and played at the Bogambara stadium in Kandy. At half time Kandy ICBS led 12-0.

A large number of Institutes from all parts of the island participated in this tournament which was a roaring success. Kandy Sports Club and Sri Lanka ruggerite Sanjeewa Jayasinghe graced the occasion as the chief guest and distributed the main awards along with the CEO of ICBS, Kandy Mohan Pathirana.

The final turned out to e a well contested affair with both teams having some former schoolboy ruggrites but fly Iamd Reyal’s brilliant play tilted the game in favour of Kandy ICBT. Imad Reyal’s first try was a brilliant over 50 metre effort when he received a pass from skipper and flanker M. Jabeer Shabbir and sprinted away to score under the post and added the extra points himself.

Just before the short whistle another 50 metre effort by Imad Reyal which went unconverted saw Kandy ICBT taking up a 12-0 lead.

Almost on the stroke of whistle for the lemons centre S. Godigamuwa scored for IFSBC Kandy which went unconverted.

The second half too produced some exciting rugby and the winners put the issue beyond doubt with a try scored by winger Mohammed Farhan which went unconverted. Former Kingswood College ruggerite Jabeer Shabbir captained the champion Kandy ICBS and led his side well.

Priyantha Gunaratne refereed. In the Cup semi finals ICBT ‘A’ beat ANC 24-5 and IFB beat SATIM 33-0.

American National College won the Plate Championship by defeating South Asia Institute of Technology and Management (SATIM) by 21 points (3 goals) to 7 (1 goal) after leading 7-0 at the breather. Ghazzali Ifthikar (1 try). Kalupathirana (1 try) and Rishitha Peiris (1 try) scored for the winners. Rishitha Peiris goaled the tries. For SATIM N. Peiris scored the try and added the points himself.

American College of Higher Education won the Bowl Championship by defeating ICBT Kandy ‘B’ by 36 points (3 goals, 3 tries) to nil in the Bowl final. The winners led 19-0 at half time.

In the Bowl semi finals ICBT ‘B’ beat ACHL Colombo 26-0 and ICBT ‘B’ beat ICBT Nugegoda 17-0.

The result of other matches played ICBT ‘B’ beat ICBT ‘A’ beat ICBT Colombo 45-0, IFB beat ACHE 20-5, ANC beat ICBT Nugegoda 54-0, SATIM beat ICBT ‘B’ Kandy 17-5. IFB beat ANC 31-21. IFB beat ICBT Colombo 27-0. ICBT Kandy ‘A’ beat ICBT Nugegoda 57-5, SATIM beat ACE 17-5.
