Colombo High Court Judge Kumudini Wickramasinghe ordered the IGP and
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director to provide security for
all members of the jury, judicial officers including counsels and Court
staff in a murder case where Chandana Kathriarachchi is one of the five
suspects.
Judge Wickramasinghe issued this ruling following the Jury foreman
receiving anonymous telephone call threatening his life. This prompted
the Judge to order security for all of them until the completion of the
hearing.
She also ordered the CID to conduct an investigation into a person
who is said to be a Kattadiya who arrived in Court last week.
Security personnel in the High Court were instructed to photograph
and obtain Identity Card details of all persons who enter Court.
She also ordered the IGP and CID Director to expedite investigations
on both matters and report to the Court quickly to conclude the hearing.
The case has been put off for July 14. The delay is that CID officers
have to go out of Colombo for investigations. The investigations are to
be done by the CID under an ASP, the High Court ordered.
Dilupa Peiris appeared for the Attorney General and Rajan de Silva
and Ranjith de Silva PC appeared for the defendants.
