Death sentence for killing brother

Puttalam High Court Judge S.D.A. Thaasim imposed death sentence on a man who was convicted for killing his elder brother by strangling. The Judge imposed the death sentence on Kiriyage Susil a resident of Periyakulam in the Anamaduwa Police Division for murder of Kiriyage Abeyruwan on August 03, 1997 or on an approximate date.

Police investigations revealed that the deceased had used to come home drunk and tease his mother and the other family members.

On that day, the mother had gone to the Anamaduwa Police to lodge a complaint against him after he teased her. The younger brother who could not bear up harassments to his mother had killed his elder brother by tightening his neck with a rope and hung the body on a beam of the roof.

State Counsel Asela Serasinghe led the prosecution while Attorney-at-Law Indika Tennakoon appeared for the accused.
