Arms haul recovered in Mullaitivu, Vakarai
A large haul of arms were recovered by a Nuwara Eliya Police Special
Task Force team led by Inspector Fonseka during a search operation
conducted in Wellamullawaikkal, Mullaitivu on Wednesday evening police
headquarters said.
The haul included the following items one mm.60 mortar launchers with
pouch, one mm60 commando mortar, two drums, 78 dongen cartridges, one
T-56 silencer, three T56 magazines, two dongen pouches, five hand
grenades one RPG weapon, one 40 mm grenade launcher and 15 mortars, five
gas cartridges, two pressure mines, one claymore bomb, 14 RPG
cartridges, one RPG charger, two RPG trapping cartridges, two 81 mm.
Trapping cartridges, two 60 mm. Bombs, 345 cartridges (12.7
category), two 12.7 magazines and one 60 mm. weapon.
On the same day another haul of arms was recovered by Vakarai Police
during a search operation in the Panichchankerni jungle. The haul
included two RPG bombs, two 60 mm mortar bombs and 300 cartridges (7.62
category).
Meanwhile, the Bulathkohupitiya police arrested a suspect in
connection with an alleged sexual abuse of a 32-year-old woman. He was
produced before the Kegalle magistrate and remanded till the completion
of investigations. Kahatasdigiliya police has arrested a 23-year-old
youth in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl
on June 14. The suspect was due to be produced in court.
A cyclist injured in a road accident on Galle road between Panadura
and Wadduwa succumbed to his injuries on admission to Panadura hospital
on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Konahandi Neil Silva 44, of Narampitiya.
The van driver involved in the accident is in police custody. Panadura
police are investigating.
