Indika Polkotuwa
It is the duty of a responsible opposition to join hands with the
Government to defeat external forces trying to interfere in Sri Lanka’s
domestic affairs and infringe on its sovereignty without trying to fish
in troubled waters for selfish gain, said Asgiriya Chapter Anunayaka
Thera Ven Galagama Attadassi yesterday.
The Anunayaka thera said so commenting on allegations, that
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested the United Nations
to pressurize the Government to publish an incident report on alleged
human rights violations and that war crimes took place during the last
phase of the humanitarian operations to rescue people from the LTTE.
The Anunayaka thera said it was the prime duty of all people’s
representatives including those in opposition ranks to join hands and
protect the country from any external threats or dangers. He said he
deeply regretted the alleged statement of the Opposition Leader if he
had actually done so. The Thera said he was pleased to see certain
Opposition MPs coming forward to defend the country’s independence and
sovereignty in times of danger.
