Alleged assault on employee:

Matara hospital minor staff hold protest

Minor employees of the Matara General Hospital refused to perform their duties after reporting to work yesterday demanding Matara Municipal authorities to remove the three wheeler park opposite the hospital premises.

The bone of contention for the work stoppage was the alleged assault on a senior employees by a three wheeler driver recently.

The senior employees staged a protest campaign demanding the three wheeler park removal on two earlier occasions too while three wheeler drivers staged a counter protest against the removal of the park. Hospital's Deputy Director Dr Priyantha Jeewaratne said yesterday's action by the minor staff had disrupted normal hospital work at the OPD and other sections.
