To advise or not to advise

Who wants advise, by the way? We have learnt what we have learnt from adults and we don’t want the self same adults telling us what we should do now and what we shouldn’t. We are doing now the same things they did then, at our age. History repeats, eh?

Of course we’d very much like to do things in our own style at what ever cost. Learn lessons the hard way. Then there are ups and downs. Sometimes we do end up in a rut. That’s the time we feel kind of lost and need some sign pointing the way out. We accept we are too proud to ask for help but we do need a word to lift us up when we are down. But definitely not advise and I-told-you-so stories. Scrap the pity outright.

As long as the adults are not force feeding us or holding the gun at our shoulder instructing ...(aah! how we hate that word.)... where to go, how to go and when to stop. Its time the adults stop spoon feeding us. Rather leave notice boards or signs to show the way. Or lead from the front. Nothing is clear to us than good example.

We may follow. We may not. Nevertheless leaving a green light here, a red light there is not all that despicable. All we need at times, (remember only at times) is positive inspiration and conducive atmosphere to do what they call the right thing. But then we have our own opinions on what is what and what is kind of okay and what, after all, may turn out not all that fantastic.

Didn’t we learn from you guys that experience teaches us the good and bad. So why get in our way when we want to experience what ever. Confused? As usual. Perhaps we young people are bad at expressing in precise words that is clear to adults. The problems is not ours. Its all about not gearing ourselves with the language that break barriers.

You expect us to understand what you say and we expect you to understand us. The problem flows like a river and we are on the two banks that never meet. Not ever. You call it generation gap? With all the modern day constructions turned on why not build a bridge that can withstand generations?Aaah... Whateverrrr.

If you carefully watch us young people with interest, you will learn that we have our own language, phrases, gestures, signs and sounds that mean something entirely different to adult communication patterns.

For instance when we point the tiny finger and the thumb away from the fist we mean phone, which is our life line.. If we raise the middle and the second finger up we mean victory and that we are with you. No. We don’t want to raise anymore fingers middle or other wise lest we offend you guys.

We would like you guys to be there for us...more than anything just lend an ear.. Stop talking for once and for heavens sake LISTEN to what we have to say. We want to talk to you...we want to tell you soooo much. You should be sharp enough to read between the lines we say and sense every stammering...every pause...every hesitant word like a microphone at sound level 7.

If you understand us right, with every soft word we utter, we are screaming from the roof tops. Every time we scream we are tearing out our hearts if not our hair.. Every time we open our mouths to speak and shut up without saying anything, it’s a red light for you. If we just look blank not saying a word for hours, days or weeks we are dead. Bored. Off road. Or just don’t recognize you guys... That’s when we are convinced you are not interested in what we have to say.

That’s the moment when you need to listen to. We are telling you a lot without a word. Silence is not golden as you guys believe. Silence for us means we are lost. Broken. Desperate. Destitute...and about to commit.... whatever comes first. Never mind. Who cares, anyways.

Stop imagining. Just listen. Notice us. Take interest. Today we are alive and kicking. We have needs. Wants. Yearnings. Hopes. Beliefs as much as you do. Be there for us. Just be there TODAY.

For us, tomorrow’s another world. Today is everything.
