Decisive moves to curb dengue

The Presidential Task Force set up to control dengue in Sri Lanka had
taken vital decisions during its first progress review meeting held at
the Presidential Secretariat on Tuesday. Implementing the Prevention of
Mosquito Breeding Act as strictly as possibly is one of the key
decisions taken by the task force, Health Ministry spokesman said.
According to the spokesman the meeting was headed by Health Minister
Maithripala Sirisena. Minister Sirisena had pointed out that certain
parts of the Act is not strict enough to control dengue.
He pointed out that it takes about one month to punish a person who
keeps mosquito breeding sites within his property but it takes only one
week to breed dengue mosquito in that mosquito breeding site.
