Thurstan out of Milo rugby
Thurstan College have pulled out from the Milo Schools Under 20 knock
out rugby tournament which was scheduled to start at the CR and FC
grounds in Longden Place today.
Thurstan College were set to meet Vidyartha College Kandy in the
quarterfinals of the Premier Trophy tournament third quarterfinal
fixture today.
However Thurstan College have informed the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby
Football Association that they have been deprived of clinching the
runners up position in the Singer Inter Schools Division One Group ‘B’
league tournament which concluded recently.
Science College were declared as the runners up of the Singer Group
‘B’ league tournament with just 0.5 points ahead of Thurstan College
after their clash was abandoned due to bad weather at Havelock Park.
As a result Thurstan College have lodged a protest and also intend
taking immediate legal action against the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby
Football Association until they are declared as runners up of the
Division One Group ‘B’ league tournament.
Meanwhile the President of the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football
Association K. A. D. Punyadasa stated that they have consulted the
Sports Council of the Education Ministry and intend delivering a verdict
in a couple of days time. (C.D)
Rajans triumph
Dharmaraja College trounced Royal College Panadura by a massive
margin of 75 points to 10 points in their Milo Schools Under 20 knock
out Premier Trophy rugby tournament quarterfinal match worked off at
Longden Place yesterday.
The winners collected their points from five goals and eight tries
after having led 41 nil at half time. Royal Panadura responded with two
unconverted tries.
