Bail for six in extortion case

Kebathigollawa Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered to release the five investigation officers attached to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Vavuniya district and a bank employee on Rs. 10,000 cash bail and Rs. 500,000 personal bail each. Padaviya police produced the six suspects before court on the charge of illegally collecting money from traders of Padaviya, Parakramapura and Kabithigollawa by threatening to prosecute them under the Consumer Affairs Act.

The Magistrate also ordered police to produce them before courts on August 4.

Further investigations are being conducted by Padaviya police OIC IP Chandana Kumara on the instructions of Anuradhapura district SSP.
