The Government has proposed to the Speaker that the Parliamentary
proceedings should be released to the Internet through the worldwide
web.
This suggestion had been forwarded to Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa by
Chief Government Whip and Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh
Gunawardena on behalf of the Government, Parliamentary sources said.
A group of Ministers have indicated to the Speaker that this task
could be carried out through the Parliament's Website www.parliament.lk,
and this would enable a large number of persons to watch the proceedings
on the Net.
They have pointed out that already many other Parliamentary
democracies provide a live cast of their proceedings on the Net.
A Parliament spokesman said that a final decision in this regard
would be taken at a Party Leaders' Meeting. |
