One hundred GN vacancies to be temporarily filled

One hundred Grama Niladari vacancies in Northern and Eastern
Provinces will be temporarily filled by retired Grama Niladaris Public
Administration and Home Affairs Ministry Higher Officers told the Daily
News yesterday. Accordingly, the appointments would last for one year
until new appointments are made through a competitive examination to be
conducted by the Examinations Department.
He said there are about 300 vacancies yet to be filled due to lack of
bilingual proficiency officers in the country who can work in the
Sinhala and Tamil languages. Meanwhile, according to the new scheme of
recruitment to the Grama Niladari Service, three ordinary passes at the
GCE A' level will be made compulsory.
The new scheme of recruitment had been already submitted to the
Salaries and Cadres Committee for approval.
According to Ministry sources, a committee has been appointed to
evaluate the proposals of public representatives, civil organizations
Government Officers and others for demarcation of new Divisional
Secretariats and Grama Niladari Divisions or to amend their area extents
giving priority to development and administrative purposes.
The existing Assistant Government Agent offices will be transformed
to Divisional Secretariats, according to Ministry sources. |
