Former Deputy Minister remanded

Former SLFP Deputy Minister Chandana Kathriarachchi was remanded by the Colombo High Court over his alleged involvement in the murder of Kasturiarchige Don Chandrarathne in the Piliyandala Kesbawa area on August 24, 1996. The case was taken up before High Court Judge Kumudini Wickramasinghe.

Five persons including former Deputy Minister Chandana Kathriarachchi are allegedly involved in the murder.

One person is absconding while the other four suspects including Kathriarachchi were remanded.

This case was pending in the Kesbawa Magistrate Court for some time. It was ultimately transferred to the Colombo High Court. The Judge ordered four suspects including Chandana Kathriarachchi to be remanded while warrants were issued to arrest the other person, who is absconding.

State Counsel Dilupa Peiris appeared for the Attorney General while Attorney-at-Law Ranjan Mendis appeared for defendants.
