Allied Health Science course:

Degree limited to three plus one years

The University Grant Commission has decided to limit the Allied Health Science Course for three plus One year. Three years for general degree and One year special degree for those who qualified, Higher Education Minister S. B. Dissanayake said.

The Minister said, "everyone know there is a problem with Allied Health Science students. Finally We have arrived at the best solution for this matter." I have discussed with everyone and ascertained everything about this issue. Three plus One is the best solution and it is a win-win solution," the Minister added. He said even recognized foreign universities in the United Kingdom, Singapore and Australia offer a three years degree. He said, "the Inter University Students Council is not a legal body.

The JVP is behind them. We will not give them to spoil the University system," the Minister said addressing the media yesterday.

University Grant Commission Chairman Prof. Gamini Samaranayake and Higher Education Ministry Secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne were also present.
