Tea production grows in May
The total tea production in May has recorded 30,291,297 Kg and this
is a 12.9 percent growth compared to May 2009.
The Sri Lanka Tea Board said the total tea production during the
period January to May 2010 amounted to 134,207,529 Kg as against
107,335,619 kg produced during the corresponding period of 2009, shows
an increase of 26,871,910 kg. This is an increase of 25 percent.
In May total production of high grown tea reported as 8,640,867 Kg
and this segment recorded 8,259,958 kg of production during May 2009.
Medium grown tea production amounted to 6,283,840 Kg and this was
4,136,714 Kg in last May. The total production of low grown tea reported
as 15,366,590 Kg. Orthodox tea production recorded as 28,113,146 Kg and
CTC tea production was 1,859,709 kg in last month. Green tea production
also contributed 318,442 kg for the total tea production. |
