LatAm decry Israeli attack on aid ship
Brazil: Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and Chile vehemently condemned
the Israeli attack, on international waters, against one of the six
vessels of the Freedom Fleet carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip
killing 19 pacifists.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez , on behalf of his Government and
country said their deep sorrow and condolences to the families of the
victims of this crime.
“We promised to honour their memory and provide the necessary
assistance and demand those responsible for these killings are severely
punished”, he said.
Brazilian Government also expressed its concern about the situation
of the Brazilian citizen, Iara Lee, travelling in the same fleet.
Argentina called to make a complete and thorough investigation of the
facts, while Chile announced it will continue to evaluate the situation
in the light of new information received from its diplomatic missions in
the area.
“Chilean Chancellery will closely follow the extraordinary meeting of
the Security Council that has been called by Turkey to be held this
afternoon in New York”, a source said.
The tragic results of the Israeli military operation highlights, once
again, the need to immediately lift the blockade on the Gaza Strip to
ensure freedom of movement of people and free access to food,
medicaments and goods to the region, says a press release issued by
Brazilian Foreign Minister.
Latin America countries will continue denouncing terrorism and
criminal nature of the Israeli Government, while it reiterates today
more than ever its unwavering commitment to the Palestinian people’s
struggle for freedom, national sovereignty and dignity.
