All UNP reforms committee members will be available to convince party
members about the ongoing changes and seek views for the reforms that
are to be introduced to the party at Sirikotha, from Tuesday to Friday,
UNP spokesman Gayantha Karunathilaka told the Daily News.
Ex-Parliamentarians, Lak Vanitha and Yovun Peramuna members will meet
the reforms committee to discuss matters relating to the party. The
detrimental factors which left the party in its worst debacle in its
recent history will be examined through an exclusive dialogue with
veterans of the party, he said.
The reforms committee members will meet representatives of all the
party organs include trade unions and UNP associations. “These trade
unions support is vital in every aspect of the party’s survival. They
will be summoned before the committee for their views in the reforms,”
he added.
After the comprehensive final report of the reforms committee was
handed over, an exclusive and lengthy discussion was held with the UNP
Parliamentary group and with working committee members. The final
decision will be made after a special convention. The convention that
was to be held in July was extended up to August.
“This Special August Convention is convened to ratify the reforms
taking shape over a long period following the General election,” he
said.
