Unit to rehabilitate drug addicts

A special unit to rehabilitate drug addicts of the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts has been set up at the Mawathagama District Government Hospital in Kurunegala.

This unit known as Piyavi Piyasa was set up by the North Western Province Social Services Department with the assistance of the Health Services Department.

This special project functions under the guidance of North Western Province Provincial Council Social Services Director V. Malanie.

Rs 50,000 for flood damaged houses

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said families whose houses were completely damaged due to floods will each receive Rs 50,000 as compensation.

DMC Deputy Director Pradeep Kodipilli said those who moved to their homes were provided with cleaning equipment with the assistance of local and International organizations adding that the relief services are continuing smoothly.

Motorcyclist dies in collision

A motorcyclist D. Ranjith (27) of Mudukatuwa, Marawila was critically injured in a collision with a van carrying Vesak sightseers at Bandkade Junction Marawila on Saturday succumbed to his injuries at the Colombo National Hospital.
