Police in thrilling 18-13 win over Havelocks

Sri Lanka Police Sports Club produced another splendid performance as
they snatched a thrilling 18 points to 13 victory against Havelocks
Sports Club in their Caltex inter-club ‘A’ division league rugby
tournament match worked off at Police Park yesterday.
Police SC who were trailing 3-6 at half time came back magnificently
and turned the game in their favour while collecting their points from
one goal, one try and two penalties. Havelocks SC responded with one
goal and two penalties.
Harshana Wijeweera gave Police SC an early lead with a 25 metre
penalty but the Havies struck back through Senthil Kumar who
successfully converted two good penalties to put them in front 6-3 at
half time.
Soon after resumption Police equalised when Harshana Wijeweera put
over a 30 metre penalty. Havelocks SC struck again midway in the second
half and scored their solitary try through flanker Asela Dissanayake
with Harsha Weerakkody adding the extra points to make it 13-6.
The Police hit back when Nalin Welagedera scored their first try with
Wijeweera making no mistake with the conversion (13-all).
However Police SC staged a good rally in the dying stages of the game
and were able to turn the game in their favour with Champika Thushara
scoring the match winning try a few minutes before the final whistle to
make it 18-13. |
