Gazette not on time

School leavers and job seekers are inconvenienced due to the delay of the Government gazette reaching post offices in the Nuwara Eliya district.

Post Masters said they receive the Government gazette after one or two months lapse. Due to this who wish to send applications for various jobs are disappointed.

They ask the Postal Department to circulate these gazettes to the relevant post offices in time.


No music teacher for three years

The G.C.E. (O/L) students of Boralugoda Maha Vidyalaya in Kahahena who sit the examination this year are deprived of the opportunity of offering music as a subject due to the absence of a music teacher in the school. This school falling within the purview of Hanwella Education Division of Homagama Education Zone has no music teacher for the past 3 years.

The parents request the authorities to fill in the vacancy soon to enable their children to enhance their inborn talents, at least from next year.


Book launch

Two books to commemorate the completion of 22 years of the Provincial Council System of Sri Lanka will be launched on June 2 at 3.00 p.m. at the Sausiripaya Auditorium at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 07.

Council Secretariat of the Western Province will launch an academic book named “Western Province and the Provincial Council Process of Sri Lanka,” also, a book containing data of the Western Province Provincial Council of its 22 years of history.

Speaker of the Parliament Chamal Rajapaksa and Secretary to the President, Lalith Weerathunga will be chief guests while Governors, Chief Ministers, Chairmen, Leaders of the Opposition and the Chief Secretaries of the past era of the Western Province Provincial Council, all the Ministers and Members who represent the Western Province Provincial Council distinguished guests who are interested in the Provincial Council system are expected.

The introductory lecture to the academic book will be by the Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Minister D. E. W. Gunasekera.

Applications and details for 2011 Grade One Admissions will appear in the Daily News on Wednesday June 02.


Vasantha Perera MDCC Chairman

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed Member of Parliament for Matale District Lakshman Vasantha Perera as the Chairman of the Matale District Coordinating Committee (MDCC).

The appointment has been made in pursuance of the policy of President Rajapaksa of appointing those who had scored the highest preference votes of the respective districts as Chairmen of the District Coordinating Committees.

Lakshman Vasantha Perera obtained over 65,000 preference votes at the last general election.
