Sri Lankan mobile phone market has immense potential for growth and there is a huge untapped telecom consumer segment in the local market. Micromax Informatics Limited Business Director Vikas Jain said the Sri Lankan market has immense potential for growth as regards mobile phones and has a huge untapped telecom consumer segment, which is the market Micromax looks forward to penetrate.

Micromax, a leading Indian mobile handset company launched Micromax mobile phone in Sri Lanka last week. Infinity Lanka Holdings (Pvt) Limited will be the local distribution partner.

"In Sri Lanka, similar to many other countries the mobile phone has become a personal device which is top of the mind of many and the 30 day battery backup facility and dual SIM facility coupled with the affordable price will be an ideal package to penetrate the low tele-density rural population and the North and Eastern markets," he said.

Post and Telecommunication Minister Jeevan Kumaranatunga said, in the light of 30 year war coming to an end, the country needs to bridge the gap of communication between the North and the South and the Micromax device is geared with all ingredients to fulfill that necessity. This is the second international foray of the Indian company, first being in Nepal. The company's aim is to launch its product also in Bangladesh, Middle East and Brazil.

Micromax is determined to take it's success to the entire SAARC nations in time to come. To ensure brand awareness and visibility, Micromax has acquired sponsorships of IIFA awards; cricket rolling from IIFA 2010, the Asia Cup and the Tri Series.

Innovative, cost-effective, credible and insightful research and development has geared Micromax mobile phone to be on par with international standards to provide, out of the box solutions to its users.
