New wing for Jaffna hospital

The Japanese organisation JAICA will build an ultra modern four storeyed new wing costing Rs 2,000 million at the Jaffna Hospital.

This wing will be built in an area of 6,800 square metres. The four storeyed building will accommodate a modern research laboratory, a modern operations theatre and an intensive care unit.

This building is to be put up in the area where the 16th, 17th, 18th, 23rd and 26th wards are housed.

The hospital canteen is to be shifted to another area.

Hospital sources said the wards will be vacated before June 7 to commence work on the new building.

The four storeyed building will be completed before July 2012, sources said.
