Rain delays temporary bridge construction

The RDA said the road stretch from Boralesgamuwa junction to Pepiliyana junction on the Colombo - Horana road was not opened for vehicular traffic yesterday morning too as the construction of temporary bridge over the Katuela at Rattanapitiya could not be completed as scheduled due to inclement weather.

According to RDA Provincial Director, R. Premaratne, the inclement weather condition that prevailed in the area delayed the construction of the bridge and she was hopeful that at least one lane of the bridge would be opened for vehicular traffic by yesterday evening. "We expect to open at least one lane of the bridge by this evening but two or three more days would take to complete the bridge," she said.

The Colombo-Horana road from Boralesgamuwa to Pepiliyana junction was completely closed for vehicular traffic last Friday night for the construction of the bridge and the people were requested to use alternative roads to avert the Rattanapitiya junction till yesterday morning.

However the vehicles were diverted via alternative routes to avert the Rattanapitiya junction yesterday morning too despite the RDAs earlier notice that the road would definitely be opened Monday morning.
