Vesak, Sambuddha Jayanti on grand scale

All arrangements have been made to hold the Vesak and Sambuddha
Jayanti celebrations in Kandy on a grand scale this year since the
defeat of terrorism after nearly three decades Central Province Chief
Minister Sarath Ekanayake said at a press conference held at his office,
Kandy yesterday. The Vesak week had been named Shardanjali Vesak week
under a concept Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna who had said pride of
place should be given to alms and gifts for the underprivileged as well
as items such as Seela and meditation programs, he said.
According to the policy of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the people
should not be divided under ethnicity or religion and all sections
should be looked at only as Sri Lankans.
Therefore, Vesak a national festival will be held with the
cooperation of every group in the country that was moving toward unity
and amity he also noted. |
