UPFA freshers visit Kilinochchi :
Entrusted with responsibility in various fields
All newly elected Members of Parliament of the United Peoples’
Freedom Alliance (UPFA) visited Kilinochchi yesterday. This visit was
undertaken on a directive of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and co-ordinated
by MP Namal Rajapaksa. The group of MPs were accompanied by the Minister
of Housing Construction ,Common Amenities and Engineering Services Wimal
Weerawansa and Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekera.
Housing and Construction Minister, Wimal Weerawansa commended the
newly elected MPs for stepping forward in support of the President’s
objective to rebuild the lives of the people of the North.
The Minister made this observation while meeting Kilinochchi District
Secretary Mrs.Y. Keedeeswaran and other Government officials, on the
action to be taken in order to accelerate development in the district.
“Today we reviewed numerous fields such as education, health,
highways and public amenities .A number of issues requiring immediate
attention were revealed in this process. Our newly elected MPs have been
allocated various responsibilities attached to these fields. We also
hope to receive the support of various Ministries in this regard.”
Expressing his views on the ongoing resettlement of displaced
families, the Minister further stated that he intended to take immediate
steps to address their problems in regard to housing. This included the
issue of the grant of lands. According to a request made by public
servants a housing project is underway.
Northern Province Governor, Major General G.A. Chandrasiri also
attended the meeting. The newly elected MPs were allocated to their
