Women’s courts on way

Ministry to look into legal background :

Future plans
* Plans to establish court only for women, children in each district

* This will safeguard self- respect and dignity

The Child Development and Women’s Empowerment Ministry has focused its attention on suggesting to the Government to establish women’s courts. Child Development and Women’s Empowerment Minister Tissa Karaliyadda told the Daily News that a court has to be established only for women and children in each district. This will safeguard the self respect and dignity of women and children, he said.

However such courts can be established only in accordance with the legal background of the country. The Ministry will look into the prevailing legal background for establishing such courts, the Minister added.

“Generally women and children are produced before courts which are used by all. The Ministry has thought of establishing courts only for women and children. By doing so, their self respect can be safeguarded. Only children and women will be produced before these courts,” Minister Karaliyadda added.
