Navy rescues fishing trawler

The Navy rescued a multi-day fishing trawler which was drifting in
the Eastern deep seas due to an engine defect on May 20. The fishin
The trawler named Chanaka Putha, which has departed from the Tangalle
fishing harbour, found itself in distress while at deep sea on May 18
and requested Naval assistance through the Fisheries and it Aquatic
Resources Department Naval Ship Samudura along with SLNS Ranarisi, SLNS
Weeraya and two Fast Naval Craft were deployed for the search and rescue
mission.
The distressed trawler was detected at a location 70 km north-east of
Pulmuda drifting in the rough seas.
Amidst thunder showers, rising high waves and monsoon wind, SLNS
Samudura and SLNS Weeraya towed the distressed trawler with its crew
members safely into the Trincomalee Harbour Thursday evening.
