Australia to support legal reforms
Australia will support for the reform to be effected in the legal
systems in Sri Lanka, Australian High Commissioner Ketti Kulmakarin said
at a meeting with Justice Minister Athauda Senevirathne held at the
Justice Ministry recently.

The Minister said actions will be taken in future to overcome the
weaknesses in the legal system of the country.
"The public awareness on certain laws is not adequate and it has
resulted in problems. Some court cases are delayed for long periods
causing hardships to the public. These inadequacies have to be rectified
with financial assistance, the Minister said.
Measures should be taken specially in the spheres of training judges
and the improvement of court facilities.
Attention is being paid for the development of facilities of the
court specially in the Northern and Eastern Provinces for which the
foreign assistance will be vital.
The judicial activities in the country will be improved further for
the benefit of the public, Minister Athauda Senevirathne said. |
