UNESCO briefed on world heritage bid


National Heritage and Cultural Affairs Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi in discussion with the UNESCO deligation including its Director in Delhi Armugam Pasuman.

National Heritage and Cultural Affairs Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi has requested UNESCO's support for the proposal to enter the Sri Pada and Seruwila ancient shrines in the world heritage list, Ministry sources said.

Minister Wanniarachchi explained UNESCO agents the Ministry's plans to preserve and conserve the world heritage Galle Fort. several Non-Governmental Organizations have come to develop cultural activities and archaeological programs in Sri Lanka.

The UNESCO emphasized their desire to support Sri Lanka in protecting.

The Ministry expects to work with the UNESCO and other helpful international bodies, Ministry sources said.
