Floods destroy paddy crop
Over 8,000 acres under water:

The current flood situation will cause a big damage to the
agriculture sector.
According to official statistics over 8,000 acres of crops on farming
lands were destroyed, Agrarian Services Development Commissioner General
Ravindra Hewavitharana said. Paddy crops in over 700 acres of land in
the Colombo district, 635 acres in Kalutara, 5,000 acres in Gampaha, 700
acres in Galle and 1,000 acres in Matara were damaged due to the floods,
the Commissioner General said. He said they are still in the process of
collecting data.
The extent of damaged farm lands could double as the rains continue
in many districts.
