In South and East:

ICASL conducts Sisu Nena seminars

As a move to empower the student body of the nation the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) had been conducting a series of seminars throughout the country over the past years titled as 'Sisu Nena' which guides Advanced Level students of the commerce stream to face the most decisive examination in their educational journey. The most recent phase of this pivotally important educational guidance program was held in the first week of May in Matara and Batticaloa.

The launch of the program

The Sisu Nena educational seminar in the South was held in Matara in association with Ruhuna University and conducted by a panel of expert lecturers, Professor D. Attapattu, Senior Lecturers Dayananda Ambalangoda, Nandasiri Kimbiyahetti, and Sarath Katukurundha who made a significant contribution supplementing the students of the region aspiring to cross the hurdle of the most vital Advanced Level examination. The Sisu Nena seminar of the Eastern province was conducted by ICASL with the aim of realizing the hidden potential bestowed in the region; the lectures of this seminar was delivered by S. Thumilan a renowned senior lecturer, whose contribution at the seminar was immeasurable for the participants.

The close affinity of ICASL towards the long neglected North Eastern provincial education is apparent through events of this caliber which followed after it opened its regional knowledge centre and examination centres in the Northern Province.

Both these seminars were immensely fruitful in nature from students numbering over 1,000 attending them with great eagerness to capture intellect at no expense. ICASL Chief Executive Officer Aruna Alwis said that the main intention of this initiative is to bring knowledge more closer towards the students who have lesser opportunities of access to them as compared to the students in the urban areas.

"This series of seminars would be conducted throughout the year as part of our Institute's Corporate Social Responsibility.

ICASL also simultaneously conducts a series of seminars called 'Guru Nena' for Advanced Level teachers under the same motive of uplifting educational standards of the country," he said.
