WB, ADB funds US $ 184 m for road development
Media Minister and Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said US $
183.9 million has been allocated for road development in several areas.
US $ 100 million out of this amount comes from World Bank Funds while
the balance is from the Asian Development Bank and the International
Development Authority. (IDA)
Speaking at the Cabinet press briefing at the Information Centre
yesterday he said funds will be allocated to 66 Pradeshiya Sabhas
focusing on areas selected to develop the roads. Under the US $ 100
million project the road from Ambepussa to Dambulla covering 90
kilometres will be done and another 43 kilometres from Kantale to
Trincomalee will be improved. Funds given by the Asian Development Bank
(ADB) amounting to US $ 33.9 million will be utilized to develop two
main roads from Mankulam to Vellankulam covering 38 km and the Paranthan
Poonareyn Road covering 25 kilometres.
The soft loan of US $ 50 million received from the IDA will be given
to develop the North and East Provincial Councils' roads. -RK
