National Policy for Grade 1 Admissions from 2011
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by Education
Minister Bandula Gunawardena to appoint a Cabinet Sub Committee to
prepare a National Policy Framework on Admission of students to Grade 1
from year 2011.
Due to the urgency of this matter, the report is to be submitted
within one week for discussion at the next cabinet meeting.
The Committee comprises Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena,
Higher Education Minister S.B.Dissanayake, Petroleum Industries Minister
Susil Premjayanth, Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena,
Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Power and Energy Minister
Patali Champika Ranawake, Construction, Engineering Services, Housing
and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa and State Resources and
Enterprise Development Minister P.Dayaratne.
Submission of Appropriation Bill and obtaining approval for the
budget for this year
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by President
Mahinda Rajapaksa as Finance and Planning Minister to submit the
Appropriation Bill and obtain approval for the budget for this year
before July 22 since approval for expenditure for this year under
Constitutional Provision 150(3) has only been obtained upto the said
date.
The budget will cover expenditure for the whole year which will
include the amount approved to cover the period upto July 22, 2010. The
total expenditure for this year will amount to Rs.1,780 billion. The
Appropriation Bill will be submitted to Parliament on June 8 and the
Budget speech will be made on June 29.
Develop roads with World Bank assistance
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by Highways
Minister to develop 90 km of Ambepussa-Dambulla Road and 43 km of
Kantale - Trincomalee Road with US $ 100 million World Bank assistance
provided under the Road Rehabilitation and Development Program.
Develop and rehabilitate Northern Province roads
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by Highways
Minister to develop and rehabilitate two national roads in the Northern
Province, namely 38 km from Mankulam to Wellankulam and 25.3 km of
Paranthan-Pooneryn road with assistance provided by the Asian
Development Bank under Conflict Affected Road Expansion (CARE) project.
Develop N and E Local Government Bodies
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum to accept the interest free
loan worth US $ 50 million offered by the International Development
Agency (IDA) of the World Bank for the development of Local Government
Bodies in the North and East.
The loan is repayable in 30 years Funds will be allocated among 66
Local Government Bodies in the North and the East. |
