Smoke eruption from container completely controlled
Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) completely stopped the smoke
erupting from a transshipment cargo container at the Colombo Port. The
container carrying Trichloroisocyanuric acid, arrived at the Colombo
Port in the vessel Fesco Diomand to be transshipped to Mombasa. It had
been placed at the Kochchikade Dangerous Cargo yard. The leakages that
caused smoke from the container started around 08 pm on Tuesday. On
instructions and supervision of SLPA Chairman Dr. Priyath B. Wickrama,
officers and staff of SLPA, Fire Unit and SLPA Safety Section
implemented all measures to completely control the situation and stop
the smoke eruption by Wednesday evening.
SLPA Chairman Dr. Wickrama thanked the Navy, Air Force, the
Government Analysts Department, Industrial Technology Institute, Water
Board and the Hyundai Engineering Construction Co. Ltd, for the
assistance to control the situation.
