Nakba, terrible tragedy

The Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine which commemorated the 62nd anniversary of the Nakba on May 15. It added: "We thanked the Government and the people for standing by the Palestinian people in their hour of need."

"We shall never forget the moral and political support that all Governments of Sri Lanka have given to the Palestinian cause," the Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine, said in a release. It all happened in 1948 when the Zionist Jewish Terrorist Gangs committed ethnic cleansing of Palestine by expelling hundreds of thousands of Palestinians both Muslims and Christians from the land where they had lived since time immemorial.

The Nakba continues to this day with daily expulsions, imprisonment and killings of Palestinians by the Israeli occupying army. The Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine sees the Nakba as a terrible tragedy in the Palestinian historical context.

We call for an immediate solution to the Palestinian refugee catastrophe and the immediate return of those Palestinians who are living in refugee camps or in the Diaspora to their ancestral homes. In this regard the Committee calls on the United Nations and the International Community to intervene in the calamity and put an end to the Palestinian crisis.

The Palestinian tragedy has been committed under the very nose of the entire world. The media has seen to it that no news that speaks the truth of the problem ever gets out in the public domain.

Moreover, we call for immediate establishment of Palestinian State after 62 years of suffering."
