Program to double rural entrepreneurs
Disna MUDALIGE
A program to double the number of rural entrepreneurs emerging from
Vidatha Resource Centres by the end of this year, is implemented by the
Technology and Research Ministry, said Minister Tissa Vitarana. These
centres were established in each Divisional Secretariat to introduce the
modern technology to the village.
These will strengthen the small and medium entrepreneurs in villages
and help to get their active contribution to the economic development.
The high technology use in export products is limited to 1.5 percent,
and increasing this to 5 to10 percent will develop the export industry.
For this task, modern scientific research should be carried out to
improve the quality of export products to attract the world market.
During the past few years, 6,000 rural entrepreneurs have emerged with
the guidance of Vidatha Resource Centres.
They have given a strong contribution to the country production.
There was a high demand in the local market for the preserved food and
byproducts industries initiated by this centre.
