Special program to solve farmer problems

The Agriculture Ministry will start a special program to solve problems faced by farmers who are unable to sell their harvest. “It is a major problem in the country’s Agriculture sector, that farmers have to face numerous difficulties when it comes to selling their produce.

Therefore we decided to link all Agrarian Services Centres through a computer network and will publish each and every farmer’s details on a special website such as their name, Agrarian Services division, the crops they cultivate etc. There are 550 Agrarian Services Centres in the country.

It will be easy for salesmen to find out in which area they could find the best produce,” Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane said. “This will be a solution for the post harvest problem. Sometimes farmers have to transport their products to faraway places to sell them. Because of this, our salesmen will come to their doorstep and collect their harvest,” the Minister added.
