Lankans nabbed in Kerala:

Police stumble on human trafficking racket

Kerala police Saturday stumbled on a human trafficking racket following the detention of 38 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees from a lodge in Kollam district. The group, which included five women and as many children, were picked up late Friday night following intelligence inputs from Tamil Nadu police. All India Congress Committee General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is due to visit the district this week in connection with the Indian Youth Congress organisational polls.

Ten illegal distilleries busted

The Southern Special Detection Unit excise sleuths busted ten illegal distilleries located at Thalgaswala, Mapalagama Friday. They had also taken into custody 10 suspects along with distilling equipment and illicit liquor worth over Rs 2.5 million.

Stolen gold Buddha statue recovered

Kiribathgoda police has arrested three suspects wanted in connection with stealing a Gold Buddha statue worth over Rs. 250 lakhs. Western Province North DIG H. S. Dayananda, SSP Kelaniya Kithsiri Ganegama, ASP Kelaniya Anton Sirikumara directing investigations conducted by OIC Kiribathgoda Police I. P. Chaminda Edirisuriya and SI S. N. S. Samarasinghe and a police party recovered the stolen Gold Buddha statue in a CTB bus plying from Hanwella to Colombo on last Sunday night.
