Swindle using President’s name

The Police Headquarters Crime Division arrested over 25 suspects who
allegedly used President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s family members’ names and
had collected millions of rupees on the pretext of sending them for
employment abroad and providing jobs in the Government sector.
Crimes DIG Anura Senanayake who is directing investigations said
those taken into custody had no connection to the President’s family.
DIG Senanayake warned the public not to fall prey to these culprits. He
said if they had been already cheated report the matter to police
headquarters on to 2441197 or Fax Number 2325391.
Investigations reveal that the suspects taken into custody had
collected money from job seekers stating that they were known to the
President’s family and will be able to provide them jobs abroad, DIG
Senanayake said.
Meanwhile, a special police squad arrested a couple from Homagama
yesterday who had allegedly collected Rs. 600,000 from a person
promising a job in the Government department.
Perusing their bank accounts, Police found over Rs.7.5 million
deposited into their accounts during the last several months.
The suspects had promised employment in the Government Sector
including Port and Airport, DIG Senanayake said.
After recording the statements, some suspects who are in custody will
be produced before courts pending the completion of investigations. |
