Maya Roo is horror at its chilling best. It is a series that contains
45 tele films, each 24 minutes of running time that will be telecast
weekly.
When one thinks of horror, one immediately thinks of Western horror
genres that have captivated and petrified audiences. Some of these
master pieces of horror include ‘The Exorcist’, ‘Poltergeist’, ‘The
Amytiville Horror’, ‘The Shining’ and ‘The Ring’.
When one thinks of horror once thinks of legendary producers and
directors such as Stanley Kubrick (The Shining), William Friedkin (The
Exorcist).
Today when Sri Lankan Audiences think of horror they will think of
Anuruddha Jayasinghe the master of horror, the director of Maya Roo. His
creations guarantee a kind of entertainment that will take the local
Tele Industry by storm.
Contributions to this ground breaking film include legends such as
Jackson Anthony, Mahendra Perera and Palitha Silva.
”Film making and artistry has become a money making business. This is
detrimental to the industry as a whole we need a resurgence in the film
making industry,” said Anuruddha Jayasinghe.
”Anuruddha has invested a lot in this film. It would be a crime if
this investment does not pay off and Anuruddha does not recover what he
put in to this. In that case Anuruddha will have to leave the industry,”
said Palitha Silva.
Silva also lamented that the kind of quality in films from the 80s is
now forgotten.
He also pointed out that the society, industry and actors must have
realised by now that the only way to leave this quagmire is to produce
high quality films.
