The Ceylon Worker’s Congress has become part and parcel of the plantation community. For the past 60 years or more, it has been rendering service to the people of Indian origin in Sri Lanka.

He said the Ceylon Worker’s Congress cannot be separated or isolated from Thomdaman family or Thondaman Family cannot be separated or isolated from the Ceylon Worker’s Congress. This was evident from the result of the recent Parliament elections.

Thondaman said the Plantation Community should be aware of the changes effected to the electoral system of country’s in near future. The plantation community should not be neglected as they are the backbone of country’s plantation economy. He said the plantation community do not have even an inch of land owned by them and they needed lands. Land must be provided to them. It has become an urgent need.

The un-employment problem too has grown among estate community youths and they should be provided with more employment opportunities.

Thondaman said when the late Soumiyamoorthy Thondaman in 1992 brought an agreement for workers’ salaries. Almost many condemned it, but none refused to accept the salaries increment.

The CWC was committed to lead the estate workers and their future generations. Therefore let us join, unitedly and work hard for Plantation community’s welfare and progress he said.

Economic Development Deputy Minister and CWC President Muthu Sivalingam said, today all the trade union representing the plantation community do not celebrate the May Day this year, except for CWC.

With the recent Parliament Elections, all other parties and trade unions in Plantations were isolated from Plantation Community. The Plantation people have taught a good lesson to them.
