The construction industry in Sri Lanka has gained a rapid growth with
the development that is taking place in the country. Therefore, many

Nawaloka Piling (Pvt) Ltd, is at present engaged in seven
construction projects around the country. It has provided service to
skyscrapers in the island such as the Empire Residencies, the Celestial
Residencies, and the Trillium Residencies, as well as the Kelaniya
flyover, the Kerawalapitiya Power Plant, Madampitiya and Wellawatte
Sewer Treatment Plants and to several other major projects, said

He said that Nawaloka Piling (Pvt) Ltd, is at present engaged in a
large project in Horana. It is the construction of Unilever
manufacturing plant in Horana with the initial construction of 364 piles
within 60 days. The additional work will bring up the total to 578 piles
for the construction.
Nawaloka Piling expects to complete the piling work within 90 working
days.
“We have been successful so far due to the latest technology and the
experienced staff we utilize. The efficiency ensuring the durability is
much higher compared with the other contractors. We use the latest
technology with sophisticated piling machineries such as Bauer and Mait,”
he said.
The current project in Horana brings about Rs 200 million income for
Nawaloka Piling and working with Unilever under their strict safety
standards will set them new standards in the competitive construction
market.
“Nawaloka Piling (Pvt) Ltd., has been involved in the industry since
1996 and it contributes to 45 percent of the Nawaloka Group revenue.
The challenge for Nawaloka Piling (Pvt) Ltd, has been keeping the
expertise in the field while it attracts many valuable human resources
with every possible facility,” Kulatunga said.
Nawaloka Piling (Pvt) Ltd, is not only catering to large scale
projects but also to small and medium projects.
The piling on a construction site is done when the ground is soft and
marshy. In a situation where deep excavation is necessary Nawaloka
Piling is capable of constructing Secant Pile Walls to retain earth
without any disturbance to the adjacent buildings.
“We have started one project in Akkaraipattu in the Eastern provinces
to cater to the needs in those areas. It is a Tsunami affected bridge
reconstruction in Akkaraipattu. We are also contemplating a project in
Jaffna peninsula as well,” he said.
Nawaloka Piling (Pvt) Ltd, is an ICTAD P1 Grade Company and a member
of National Construction Association of Sri Lanka.

he said.

Hutch, opened its first Hutch Shop in Kurunegala. Located on the
Kandy road, the Hutch shop is within close proximity to the town.
The first Hutch Shop was opened by Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka
(Private) Limited. Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Shankar Bali. The
opening was attended by top retailers in the area.
The newly launched Hutch Shop, the ‘face’ of the telco, is the first
to be launched this year, with the next two Hutch Shops to be opened in
Embilipitiya and Ambalantota.
Bali said, ‘Hutch Shops are fantastic points of interaction for us
with our customers.

The Long Island Clothing Company (L.i.C.C.) recently opened the first
concept store for its brand, “L.i.C.C. Jeans Co.”. Promoted by the
Hirdaramani Group, L.i.C.C. Jeans were initially made available through
major department stores such as Odel, Cotton Collection and Hameedias.
With the opening of this store the Long Island Clothing Company along
with its parent company intends to create a complete brand experience

SCBSL ATMs now accept China Unionpay Card
Standard Chartered Bank Sri Lanka (SCBSL) extended its ATM acquiring
ability to include China Unionpay (CUP).
Last year, Standard Chartered Bank forged an ATM alliance through
which its global ATM network would provide ATM services to CUP
cardholders in 20 countries and territories. This cooperation would
provide payment conveniences to CUP cardholders for their travelling,
business needs and studies, in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Prior
to 2009, CUP cardholders could withdraw cash and check account balance
at SCB ATMs only in China and Hong Kong.
Now however, these services have been extended to SCB ATMs in Kenya,
Zambia, Gambia, Uganda, Botswana, Bahrain, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia,
Sri Lanka and the UAE. These services will also be offered in Nigeria,
Ghana, Tanzania, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Jordan in 2010.
Cardholders will be able to withdraw cash in the local currency of
whichever country they are currently located. The withdrawal amounts
will be debited to the cardholder’s account of the card-issuing bank,
using a competitive current rate of exchange.
In recent years, the volume of Chinese outbound tourists has
increased in tandem with the growth of China’s international economic
and trading relations with the world.
Papyrus to promote FSC-certified paper with Conqueror
Papyrus Papers (Pvt) Ltd., sole authorized distributor in Sri Lanka
for Conqueror, has announced that all products sourced from the
portfolio of the global paper brand for sale in the local market are
Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
The FSC certification, which signifies that the pulp used in
manufacture comes from well-managed forests, applies to the entire
Conqueror range, as well as to allied products, the company said.
“What this means is that the paper and board we sell is certified as
originating from renewable forests, and comply with
internationally-approved environmental standards,” said Papyrus Papers
Managing Director Michelle Abeyesundere.
“Therefore, environment-conscious users, especially large corporate
sector consumers can now make a commitment to the conservation of the
environment by using FSC-certified paper from Conqueror,” she said.
She said that several other paper products from international brands
that the company plans to market in Sri Lanka, would also be FSC
certified.
Among these would be the Italian brand ‘Favini’ and the ‘TruCard’
range from the UK manufacturer Tullis Russell. |
