Rousing 10-wkt win for Nalanda

Nalanda College ended Trinity’s giant killing performances when they
pulled off a rousing ten wicket victory in the Munchee inter school
under 19 Twenty20 cricket tournament final worked off at the NCC ground
in Maitland Place yesterday.
The Nalandians completely dominated the game as they turned the final
into a one sided encounter by dismissing their opponents for a paltry 71
runs having been sent into bat first.
The Trinity batting could not cope with the Nalanda spinners with
only Sameera Wijesuriya (24) making any significant contribution. Man of
the Match Nipun Karunanayake and Best Bowler Dinuk Jayasinghe were the
chief wreckers as the pair shared six wickets between them.
In fact skipper Jayasinghe came closer of claiming a rare hattrick
with two wickets in successive deliveries while Sri Lanka youth cap
Karunanayake added the finishing touches with three wickets for nine
runs.
The Nalandians wasted no time in reaching their target as they raced
to 72 for no loss from just 9.1 overs. Both openers Prashan
Wickremasinghe and Nipun Karunanayake were in tremendous form as they
hammered the Trinity bowling to all parts of the ground.
In fact Wickremasinghe took the Best Batsman’s award for his unbeaten
knock of 33 while Karunanayake was not out on 39 when the Nalandians
reached their target.
Trinity: 71 in 15.1 overs (S. Wijesuriya 24, A. Nanayakkara 2 for 20,
N. Karunanayake 3 for 9, D. Jayasinghe 3 for 6).
Nalanda: 72 for no loss in 9.1 overs (P. Wickremasinghe 33 n.o, N.
Karunanayake 39 n.o.).
